An intentional spiritual community, Ananda Kiirtana is located in the small town of Belmiro Braga, in the State of Minas Gerais, in Brazil. The farm was acquired in 1989. It was created following P.R. Sarkar’s proposal to create centers of reference and experimentation for the creation of a non-capitalist society, using social technologies, service to others and spiritual yoga practices.
The first project, the Sol Nascente school, started in 1991 and still serves children from 3 to 7 years old, in addition to carrying out extracurricular projects with young people in the region. Various cultivation methods have been used and there are some agroforestry areas, an orchard and a community garden.
Currently, about 40 people live here. The residents of Ananda Kiirtana promote several courses and events – the most important being Winter Yoga and Meditation Retreat and a New Year’s Event in which a large part of practitioners of philosophy in South America gather.
